Ogden, UT (PRWEB) June 17, 2011

·    35,000, 10 milliliter (mL) rip packs. These 10-mL rip packs are to be added to one gallon of drinking water and make electrolyte water with sports-drink levels of essential electrolytes including sodium, chloride, potassium, plus magnesium, which support hydration and heat tolerance
·    5,500, 6.45-mL rip packs. Each of these rip packs can be added to standard-size hydration packs
·    219, 8 oz. bottles for making large mixes of electrolyte water or drink
elete’s donation was shipped June 3, 2001. Further, United Parcel Service participated in the relief effort by generously waiving its shipping costs, which totaled close to $500.
“We are pleased to have the chance to demonstrate our care and concern for the people of Missouri through Nourish America,” said Val John Anderson, Executive Vice-President and Director of Sales and Marketing for elete. “Disaster clean up in the hardest hit areas will require hard work in hot, humid conditions, and we are pleased to keep these individuals hydrated and functioning in peak condition. elete electrolytes are compact, ship well, and deliver rapid, noticeable results. We at elete Electrolytes thank Nourish America for organizing this relief effort and distributing necessary supplies to the community. We also thank UPS for their generosity in shipping this donation free of charge.”
“In our experience, during a natural disaster, there are specific products that bring immediate relief to both first responders as well as disaster victims, elete Electrolytes is one of them. Electrolytes are one of the top items on our wish list when we initiate a disaster relief effort so this donation is both valued and appreciated. Many thanks to everyone at elete for helping us at Nourish America support the health and wellbeing of the families and workers at Joplin, MO as they heal and rebuild,” said Michael Morton, Executive Director of Nourish America.

Bonavitas R12 Recovery Drink Sets New Standard

Provo, UT (PRWEB) June 22, 2011

Bonavitas announced today that it will soon launch R12, a natural recovery drink and signature product in its natural energy and recovery line. R12 contains powerful plants and superfruits known for their detoxifying and healing properties, which give it one of the highest antioxidant values of any recovery drink on the market.

Antioxidants are our best defense against aging and illness. They help our bodies fight disease, fatigue and mental decline. The total ORAC FN value of a food or drink (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, measured in umol TE/serving) indicates its antioxidant capacity. According to test results by third-party Brunswick Labs, R12 has a total ORAC FN value of 46,400 umol TE/serving. By comparison, a leading recovery drink currently on the market has a total ORAC FN value of just over 16,000 umol TE/serving – almost two-thirds less than R12.

R12’s main ingredients:
12 superfruits which are natural sources of Vitamin C, flavonoids and other antioxidants.

Cinnamon bark which actually contains calcium, chromium, copper, iodine, iron, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, zinc, and vitamins A, Bi, B2, and C.

Quercetin is found to be the most active of the flavonoids in studies and many medicinal plants owe much of their healing activity to their high quercetin content.

“Because of the rainbow of superfoods we’ve strategically used to formulate it, R12 boasts an unequaled ORACFN value,” said Alexandra Paul, scientist and inventor of the Bonavitas line of all-natural nutritional beverages. “This facilitates faster recovery and healing while promoting an overall sense of well-being.”

Visit Bonavitas for more information about R12 recovery drink.

Encore Performance of Award Winning Show, Scared Skinny, Offered July...

New York, NY (PRWEB) June 15, 2011

Adam Roebuck Productions, an Off-Off Broadway theater company, is offering an encore performance of Mary Dimino’s award winning show, Scared Skinny, on July 3rd at 5PM at the Roy Arias Theater Center’s Off Broadway Theater in Midtown, Manhattan. Italian American comedian, Mary Dimino, chronicles her colorful childhood and her quest to lose 115 pounds over the course of the show. The Winner of the 2008 Gracie Allen Award presented by American Women in Radio and Television, Dimino also earned the 2010 New York International Fringe Festival Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Solo Show for Scared Skinny.

“We are honored to bring back to the stage Mary Dimino’s award winning performance to the stage and hope the audience leaves the show with a little ‘lighter’ attitude towards their weight challenges,” said Adam Roebuck, artistic director of Adam Roebuck Productions.

As a chubby Italian American child growing up in Queens, Mary Dimino was warned by her mother that playing in a sandbox could lead to venereal disease and cautioned by her “perverted” knife wielding grandmother to stay away from all boys and dogs. Eating sausage and pepper sandwiches for lunch (with a cannoli for dessert), she suffered acute humiliation from her peers. Yet when she was only 8 years old, the realization of Mary’s dream, to one day be skinny, was foretold on a Ouiga board. Still an obese virgin at age 26, Mary had an epiphany when she overheard two “Guidos” from Brooklyn making merciless fun of her. Angry and determined, she faced her fears and after a number of false starts, finally fulfilled the destiny of her Ouiga board. One hundred and fifteeen pounds later, Mary Dimino tells the amazing and hilarious journey behind her remarkable achievement.

The Wall Street Journal said, "She shares her story of weight loss and maturation with riotously funny delivery. With her cherubic face and energetic sweetness, she is a natural comedic performer. Scared Skinny is a tale of personal triumph that anyone can relate to--and be entertained by, “ and "Mary Dimino exemplifies the hard work people do to lose pounds and stay healthy. I'm one of her biggest fans,“ Meredith Vieira, NBC’s Today Show.

Tickets for Scared Skinny are available for purchase with credit card for $20 at http://www.AdamsTickets.com. They will also be available at the door of the theater, located at the Roy Arias Theater Center, Times Square Arts Center, 300 West 43rd Street, between 8th & 9th Avenues, 5th floor, 30 minutes prior to curtain for $20, cash only.

Brothers-All-Natural Announces the “Eat Healthier America” Campaign,...

Rochester, NY (PRWEB) June 14, 2011

Choosing snacks that are healthy, such as Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps, is a crucial component for a well-balanced diet. To assist the national discussion regarding healthy snacking options for children, as well as healthy snacking alternatives for adults, Brothers-All-Natural is launching a public relations campaign aimed at getting America to eat healthier. Please visit the “Eat Healthier America” campaign web page on their website at: http://www.BrothersAllNatural.com/HEALTHY .

Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps are the perfect solution to poor snacking choices. These low calorie fruit snacks provide a healthy snack for kids and adults that are high in fiber and high in antioxidants. The USRDA recommends a minimum of five servings of fruit and vegetables each day, and Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps provide two of these five servings in a single bag. Brothers-All-Natural desires to draw attention to choosing the healthy snack option that is both nutritious and delicious. The “Eat Healthier America” public relations campaign is seeking to promote various healthy habits, many of which involve choosing the right foods to eat and the proper portion sizes.

Providing healthy snacks for young children is not always easy, because the snack must be tasty enough for the child to desire as well as providing high quality nutrition. Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps are the answer to this problem as they are healthy snacks made from delicious fruit, 100% fruit with no additives or preservatives. Not only are these Fruit Crisps a healthy snack for weight loss in that they contain less than 80 calories per bag, but they are also a gluten free snack for those with health issues such as Celiac disease. Additionally, Fruit Crisps are also dairy and casein free for those suffering from Autism or those with lactose intolerance. Kids with food allergies are also delighted to discover that they too can eat these healthy snacks, because they contain no peanuts or tree nuts.

Matt Betters, Co-CEO of Brothers International Food Corporation the parent company of Brothers-All-Natural, made the following comments in relation to getting children to eat healthy. “As a parent I know all of the challenges involved in getting children to eat healthy snacks,” said Matt Betters. “It was a challenge for this company to find the best fruit in the world, and it was an even larger challenge to develop a state-of-the-art freeze-drying facility to meet all of the quality standards we were self-imposing. However these challenges paled in comparison to getting my own kids to eat their fruit and vegetables every day. Happily we were able to solve all of these problems when we created Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps.”

Brothers-All-Natural offers ten varieties of healthy freeze-dried fruit: apple, apple-cinnamon, banana, peach, pear, pineapple, strawberry-banana, organic whole strawberry, mixed berry including blueberries and raspberries plus 2 more berry types, and the very tart mandarin orange. Brothers-All-Natural Fruit Crisps provide healthy snacks for diabetes and other health issues because they are 100% fruit and nothing else with no added sugar and no preservatives. Fruit Crisps provide healthy snack ideas for lunches and healthy snacks for after school too.

Remember to “Eat Healthier America!” by choosing Brothers-All-Natural 100% fruit snacks. For more information about the “Eat Healthier America” campaign and Brothers-All-Natural’s fun healthy kid snacks, please visit their website at: http://www.BrothersAllNatural.com/HEALTHY

Pentec Health Launches Proprietary Physician Portal

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) June 20, 2011

Pentec Health Inc., today announced the launch of their proprietary, online physician portal which provides physicians and their staff secure 24/7 access to their patients’ medical information that resides in Pentec Health’s electronic medical record (EMR) system. The Pentec Physician Portal was developed in response to a known need for secure, accurate, and timely data so physicians can better monitor the progress of patients receiving treatments at home.

The Pentec Physician Portal provides HIPAA-compliant, two-way electronic communication of prescriptions or plan of treatment changes for patients being treated with implanted pumps for severe pain and/or spasticity. The Pentec Physician Portal is fed by the company’s proprietary Point-of-Care EMR used by the nursing staff during patient visits and provides a graphic display of the patient’s health compared to their plan of treatment objectives. Detailed notes about patient spasticity and pain levels, medication dosing levels, and physical assessments also are available.

“Our nurses have the ability to see the patients far more often than the doctors, who typically only see them for a refill visit. Giving the physicians access to what our nurses are seeing between refill visits provides a more comprehensive view of the patient’s changing condition and ultimately puts the physician in a better place to improve outcomes,” said Michael Abens, General Manager and Executive Vice President of Specialty Infusion Services. “Information is power. We recognize the value of our EMR system, but the true value lies in extending it to our physicians to help improve the lives of the patients they entrust to us.”

In discussing the system, Tim Leffler, Chief Information Officer, explained, “Our aim was to mimic the paper-based system that was in place, which was already familiar to physicians and nurses, and develop an electronic system to collect and amalgamate that information. Pentec’s value proposition is uniquely enhanced in the marketplace. Through the use of our proprietary Physician Portal, we are providing a stronger physician-patient–provider relationship.”

A series of future enhancements to the Pentec Physician Portal also are underway, including patient outcomes research that will compare physicians’ patient population with that of their colleagues. Also under development is a patient portal that will provide patients and their families immediate access to their primary nurse, and relevant and substantiated literature about their health condition.

About Pentec Health, Inc.
Pentec Health Inc., headquartered in suburban Philadelphia, is the largest privately held specialty infusion services company in the United States. The Joint Commission has consistently awarded Pentec with a Gold Seal of Approval for their commitment to providing the highest level of patient safety and patient care for renal nutritional and specialty infusion home care services. Multitasking Much? Become More Focused with this Nutrient, Says Study

Salt Lake City, UT (PRWEB) June 16, 2011

Distractions are an inevitable result of a wired, work-anywhere world, and research has shown that tuning out competing stimuli to focus on a task helps with tackling our increasingly long to-do lists. Fortunately, focus and attention are two areas that can be improved through nutrition, according to new research being presented by members of the University of Utah Brain Institute this week.

The research is being showcased at the New Clinical Drug Evaluation Unit (NCDEU) annual meeting, which focuses on innovative approaches for mental health interventions, and will reveal how a key nutrient called citicoline can help improve sustained attention by enhancing the brain’s capacity to focus on a single task.

Sixty healthy women ages 40-60 participated in this double-blind, placebo-controlled three-arm study. After an initial performance test to measure attentional function, they were divided into three groups of 20 and began supplementation with either 250 mg or 500 mg of citicoline (the researchers used Cognizin® Citicoline) or placebo. Results after supplementation showed that individuals receiving either the low or high dose of citicoline produced fewer errors during performance testing. Findings suggest citicoline supplementation, at 250 mg, provided improved attention when required, due to the inhibition of incorrect responses.

"Our findings suggest that citicoline may mitigate the cognitive decline associated with normal aging and improve attentional deficits associated with overstimulation of the brain," noted Deborah Yurgelun-Todd, Ph.D., director of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Laboratory at The Brain Institute at The University of Utah. "Citicoline's ability to improve attention and focus is exciting because it can help anyone who wants to improve their focus - from scientists to soccer moms."

Researcher Dr. Erin McGlade from the University of Utah Brain Institute, who played a key role in this study, was honored with a New Investigator Award at this conference, which recognizes outstanding new research. The NCDEU conference has generally honored research surrounding pharmaceutical-grade ingredients/products, making this award particularly noteworthy as it recognized studies on a naturally occurring compound.

When citicoline is consumed as either a supplement or through a functional beverage it is absorbed and able to cross the blood-brain barrier to deliver the citicoline as needed by the body.

About NCDEU:
NCDEU is a scientific meeting that focuses on the latest developments in psychopharmacologic clinical research and related methodology. The meeting brings together over 1200 academic and industry investigators, research pharmacists, and clinicians, including competitively selected New Investigator awardees. In addition to the topics noted below, the NCDEU program includes presentations and information from the American Society of Clinical Psychopharmacology (ASCP) and its federal partners, the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, (NIAAA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

New Book Provides A Real-World Approach to Brain Health and Brain...

(PRWEB) June 13, 2011

Dr. Heidi Hanna’s new book entitled SHARP: Simple Strategies to Boost Your Brainpower (Synergy, June 2011), focuses on topics such as nutrition, fitness, and performance psychology to provide a common sense approach to understanding the concepts of brain health and mental training for improved health, happiness, and performance. Dr. Hanna brings the same personal passion to SHARP that has made her a successful performance coach and keynote speaker for the past decade.

In SHARP: Simple Strategies to Boost Your Brainpower, readers will:
Understand how the demands on your time and energy impact your mental capacity.    Learn the critical components of brain health that provide a foundation for improved cognitive functioning.    Utilize the power of brain training to stimulate mental energy with exercises that improve learning in areas that have the most impact on performance.    Create an actionable plan for implementing a sustainable brain health and training program that can be applied to your everyday life.

Matters of the Mind
The constant state of busyness that we live in has created a chronic level of stress on our brain – so toxic, in fact, that experts believe more than 75% of medical visits are stress related. Honestly, most of us are too busy to notice, and will not realize the devastating impact of stress on our lives until it takes a serious toll on our health, happiness, or performance.

Stress is literally making us sicker. Constant distractions and lack of focus causes us to multitask, a dangerous result when we look at things like driving and texting. Busyness also has harmful effects when it comes to our relationships, as people are constantly using what Dr. Hanna calls subtle insults – sending the very quiet message that what I’m doing right now is more important, so I cannot give you my full attention.

What’s more, research suggests that our mental abilities such as judgment, reasoning, memory, learning, and language, begin to decline in healthy, educated adults when they’re in their 20’s and 30’s. As baby boomers start to turn 65, the risk of Alzheimer’s disease for this group increases significantly. By the age of 85, the risk is basically a coin toss.

We Have More Control Than We Think
Scientists used to believe our brain was hardwired to function in a very specific way. But new research and the ability to use scanning technology shows that the brain is actually radically adaptable if we train it appropriately – like we do our bodies. The brain is part of the body, after all, but it is also the control center of our entire life. It is the “hardware” of our operating system, while our mind and our mental abilities are the “software”, or programming, that runs our system. According to Dr. Hanna, we are all in need of an upgrade.

The “fitter” our brain is, the more energy efficient it becomes, and the easier it is to do important mental tasks such as focusing attention and being creative.

Dr. Hanna wrote SHARP: Simple Strategies to Boost Your Brainpower to provide tools to enhance focused attention and creativity, while improving health and happiness. These same strategies help develop healthy brain functioning throughout the aging process, potentially delaying the onset of cognitive decline, dementia, and even Alzheimer’s disease. In order to keep concepts simple, and applicable, Hanna walks you through a 7-step process to becoming, and staying, SHARP.

WellWise.org Reveals Foods That Protect Against Sun Damage

Boulder, Colorado (PRWEB) June 29, 2011

In time for the 4th of July weekend, WellWise.org has complied a list of foods and nutrients that have been shown in research to protect against or reduce the damage caused by the sun’s UVA and UVB rays.

Recent news about sunscreen ingredients and new labeling requirements by the FDA have increased interest in other things that can provide protection from the aging and negative health effects caused by sun exposure. Nearly 70 percent of a person’s yearly exposure to UVB rays happen in the summer.

Most people know now that it is important to use sunscreen externally on skin when venturing outside for extended periods of time. However, the outer skin (epidermis) comprises only 20 percent of the skin, while the other 80 percent can be protected by some of common foods and supplements.

Overexposure to the sun is not the sole cause of skin cancer. Chances of contracting skin cancer from photodamaged skin rise dramatically if the body doesn’t receive adequate nutritional support such as antioxidants. Learning what foods and nutrients to ingest in adequate amounts can go a long way to having healthier skin and a longer life. Astaxanthin, for instance, has been demonstrated to protect the skin from UV rays that would otherwise damage skin DNA. WellWise’s list of sun protective foods can be found here.

H4H Initiative Pilots iPhone App in the UK to Promote Healthy...

London (UK) (PRWEB) June 17, 2011

'THIRSTY PETE' iPHONE APP

Developed as an engaging soft learning tool, ‘Thirsty Pete’ represents an innovative solution to promote public awareness of the importance of healthy hydration, and encourage behavioural change through game dynamics that demonstrate the physical and mental benefits of adequate hydration. The character, ‘Thirsty Pete’, is an interactive water droplet and a font of knowledge on water and healthy hydration. After downloading ‘Thirsty Pete’ to their iPhones, users must care for him by correctly answering quiz questions to obtain virtual glasses of water. If he isn’t adequately hydrated, he becomes increasingly unhappy and ultimately ‘evaporates’. Users are rewarded for keeping Pete healthy and are given advice to help ensure they also stay well hydrated.

As well as quizzes and other features, there is also a ‘Wee Checker’ where users can monitor Pete’s hydration status - the darker the colour, the more concentrated the wee and the more dehydrated he is. This element is based upon the Hydration Color Chart developed by Professor Lawrence E. Armstrong.

ENCOURAGING HEALTHY HYDRATION IN CHILDREN AND TEENS

Despite the known benefits of adequate hydration and that it’s essential for normal bodily function, many people still may not drink enough fluids[1,2]. Recent surveys suggest that many people, including children, do not drink enough[3]. A UK survey demonstrated that 40% of 11- to 18-year-old children drink less than 1.2 litres per day[4], compared with EFSA guidance on adequate intakes of 2.1 litres and 1.9 litres per day for 9- to 13-year-old boys and girls, respectively[5]. In fact, it’s not uncommon for school children to go for 6 or 7 hours without a single drink[1].

Short-term consequences of dehydration include impaired physical and cognitive performance, headaches, raised heart rate and blood pressure. In the long term, it is associated with a range of serious conditions, including urinary tract infections, kidney stones and periodontal disease.

More positively, a recently published study showed that a relatively simple but comprehensive educational intervention programme proved successful for enhancing hydration status in just two days that resulted in improved physical endurance in exercising children[6].

With its mission of establishing healthy hydration as an integral part of public health nutritional guidelines and routine patient counselling, so that people can make informed choices, the H4H Initiative aims to encourage more widespread advocacy of healthy hydration to the general public.

With the UK pilot of the ‘Thirsty Pete’ iPhone app it is hoped that, by making learning about healthy hydration entertaining and fun, this innovative approach to healthy hydration advice and can help to address the potential long-term health risks associated with poor hydration choices.

‘Thirsty Pete’ is currently only available in the UK. Further information on the success and key learnings of the UK pilot programme will follow. To view a demonstration video, visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNa-acYJlKk

Chronic Ice Hemp Tea to Take On Thirsty Crowd at Spring Gathering June...

Los Angeles, CA (Vocus/PRWEB) June 09, 2011

Spring Gathering is about celebrating the special relationship between music and medicine. Music is medicine. Marijuana is medicine. The gathering, happening at San Bernadino’s NOS Events Center on June 11, is California’s largest medical marijuana event. It brings together some of the prominent authorities and supporters of medical marijuana like Ed Rothenthal and Michael Backes, and A-list talent like Tommy Chong, Snoop Dogg, and Cypress Hill. Chronic Ice, a delicious and nutritious hemp beverage, will be on hand (and in hands), ready to refresh the revelers.

“Chronic Ice is going to be all over the place at Spring Gathering—we’ll be on stage with the stars and in the hands of participants when they come in and when they leave,” said Tony Van Pelt, founder of Chronic Ice and ChronicCandy.com. The hemp beverage will be given away as samples and available for purchase at the festival.

Chronic Ice is a refreshing health tea, made with organic sugar cane, a green and black tea blend, lemon essence, ascorbic acid and, of course, hemp seed extract. The antioxidant-rich, healthy tea contains only 80 calories per serving, and is free of preservatives and high-fructose corn syrup.

Spring Gathering’s lineup this year features the world’s top musicians / marijuana advocates. Snoop Dogg, Cypress Hill, Stephen Marley with special guest Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley, Travis Barker and Mix Master Mike, Tha Dogg Pound (a Tribute to Nate Dogg), Dilated Peoples, Collie Buddz, and Los Rakas will keep the crowd going all day from 12:55 pm to 11:30 pm.

B Real, Tommy Chong and Guerilla Union, in association with Americans for Safe Access, have secured permission to provide a safe consumption area for medical marijuana patients on the Spring Gathering grounds—a first in the history of the event.

Ticket holders will receive access to WeedMaps Medical Marijuana Expo @ Spring Gathering, which brings together advocates, businesses and consumers of medical marijuana. It is a popular venue for nonprofit organizations, political organizations, medical physicians, medical marijuana collectives, dispensaries, eco-friendly exhibitors and other members of the diversified cannabis community. Chronic Ice will have a booth at the Expo, so be sure to stop by and grab a sample.

The expo will host many expert discussion panels and special meet-n-greet sessions with celebrity guests and prominent speakers, including Dr. Greenthumb (B-Real of Cypress Hill), who has advocated for marijuana legalization for over 20 years. Topics will include the scientific facts on marijuana’s medicinal properties, the latest advancements in hydroponics, an introduction to the influential female proponents of medical marijuana, and the future of the modern cannabis movement. Audience Q & A sessions will follow each panel.

The WeedMaps Medical Marijuana Expo will also play home to The Spring Cannabis Classic, hosted by Tommy Chong. The Spring Cannabis Classic is a platform for medical marijuana patients to celebrate with their favorite collectives, products and strains of the season, as well as honor inspirational activists and artists that have enhanced their lives.

Spring Gathering will be held Saturday, June 11 from noon until midnight at the NOS Events Center, located at 689 South “E” Street in San Bernardino, California. Tickets are available from select retailers and dispensaries, or online at http://www.ticketfly.com/purchase/event/34763.

Health Blog WellWise.org Kicks Off Men’s Health Week With Strategies...

Boulder, CO (PRWEB) June 13, 2011

WellWise.org kicks off International Men’s Health Week with a two-part series by one of Canada’s most sought-after authorities on nutrition, obesity, longevity and men’s health, Brad King.

Male menopause, or andropause, results in a drastic decline in the male hormone testosterone – up to 10 percent every decade past the age of 30 – and yet though few doctors even admit the condition exists, it can be the underlying source of depression, a noticeable loss of muscle mass, heart disease, diabetes, cancer, prostate disease, and the dreaded man-boob syndrome.

King is the international bestselling author of "Fat Wars: 45 Days to Transform Your Body," and the award-winning "Beer Belly Blues: What Every Aging Man and the Women in His Life Need to Know." In this WellWise series, he reveals the research that has been done on male menopause, why belly fat is a hallmark of decreasing testosterone and increasing estrogen levels, and offers tips on the right kinds of diet and exercise that can combat the ill effects of male menopause.

Brad King contributes regularly to http://www.WellWise.org with his blog, “Metabolism Matters.”

International Men’s Health Week is a project conceived in 2002 to increase awareness of male health issues on a global level and to encourage inter- and intra-national institutions to develop health policies and services that meet the specific needs of men, boys and their families. To quote Congressman Bill Richardson (Congressional Record, H3905-H3906, May 24, 1994), “Recognizing and preventing men’s health problems is not just a man’s issue. Because of its impact on wives, mothers, daughters and sisters, men’s health is truly a family issue.”

WellWise is a nonprofit website whose mission is to offer authoritative, science-based information on nutrients, supplements and strategies for health, and to provide a lively meeting place for consumers, integrative health professionals, nutritionists and researchers.

Bonavitas R12 Is Certified By Independent Lab For High ORAC Value

Provo, UT (PRWEB) June 10, 2011

Bonavitas announced today that according to assay tests results from Brunswick Laboratories, its r12 recovery drink boasts a superior total ORACFN, which measures antioxidant activity against all five free radicals found in the human body. The ‘FN’ stands for food and nutrition. R12 recovery drink has 46,400 umol TE/100 grams per serving, more than three times that of a leading muscle recovery beverage.

Free radicals are responsible for aging, tissue damage and possibly some diseases. The role of antioxidants is to interact with free radicals and "quench" them, or render them harmless. Antioxidants are fundamental for healthy aging, as they arm our bodies with the ability to fight free radicals and generate new cells. R12 super fruits like bitter orange, lemon, west indies lime, blood orange etc ... are packed with antioxidants.

ORAC, or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity, is the term used in the wellness industry to indicate a food’s antioxidant capacity. The higher the ORAC value of a particular food, the higher its antioxidant level, typically measured in umol of Trolox Equivalents per 100 grams (umol TE/100 g). “Its high Total ORACFN score places R12 recovery drink at the top of the list in natural beverages dedicated to energy plus recovery,” said Jacques Jonassaint, CEO of Bonavitas.

R12 recovery drink are for bodybuilding athletes, amateur sports enthusiasts, weekend warriors, moms on the go – and pretty much anyone else with tired muscles. R12 recovery drink reduces muscle fatigue and achiness when consumed within 45 minutes of exercise and contains no added sugar, no artificial colors, flavors, sweeteners or preservatives, with a rainbow of super fruits that restore the body’s natural balance for long term health benefits. For more information about R12 recovery drink, visit Bonavitas or call (801) 207-8298.

ThinkEasy NYC Launches Summer Education Series with Full House, and...

(PRWEB) June 11, 2011

The warmest day of the year so far marked the opening of a new public education space in Brooklyn, NY. The name 'ThinkEasy' came about as much from the content of the education, as the atmosphere in the space itself. A former artists studio, this unique space provided the backdrop to a extremely successful first event, entitled 'Meet Your Mind'.

The speaker behind 'Meet Your Mind' is Nathan Ellis, a holistic psychotherapist specializing in Cognitive - Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Mindfulness, Meditation and Brain Nutrition. The concept of the talk was to introduce techniques successful in mental health treatment to the wider population by simply acknowledging these techniques as essential human tools.

Using the teachings inherent in Cognitive-Behavioral Psychology, the evening introduced practical tools for managing troubling thought cycles, emotions and behaviors, and addressed the psychology of human motivation and interpersonal relations with implications for every aspect of daily living.

Using presentation, specific case histories and impromptu audience examples, Nathan walked the audience through the process our minds go though between stimulus and human response, focusing on how the immediate landscape of conscious and unconscious thoughts drive our emotions, which in turn drive our behaviors and decisions.

The standing-room-only audience was fully engaged by the combination of Nathan's authentic sincerity and personal conviction to reducing unnecessary suffering in the world. Nathan's style is refreshingly down to earth, which only encouraged the relevance and accessibility of this fundamental subject matter, ranging from neuroscience and cultural philosophy, to self-determination and practical psychotherapy.

Due to the sold out nature of the event, along with the positive response from the audience, ThinkEasy NYC has decided to host Nathan's next event, which will take place on Wednesday, June 29th at 7pm.

Nathan Ellis is in private practice in Brooklyn, NY, offering in person and Skype appointments. To find out more about his work, you can visit http://www.nathan-ellis.info.

On Wednesday, July 6th, the speaker at the ThinkEasy will be Jean Menges, Licensed Acupuncturist, who will be sharing her passion for Neuro-Emotional Technique and 3E acupuncture.

ThinkEasy NYC is a new education and personal development center located on the shores of the East River in Brooklyn, NY. Wednesday, June 1st saw the first public education event called 'Meet Your Mind' and was a sold out success.

The U.S. recycling rate for aluminum beverage cans has reached its highest level in a decade, with 58.1% of all cans recycled last year—a rate that is nearly than double that of any other beverage container, the Aluminum Association, Can Manufacturers Institute (CMI) and Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) announced today.

Nearly 56 billion aluminum cans were recycled in 2010, leading to a used beverage container (UBC) recycling rate of 58.1%—the highest in 11 years. Because it takes 95% less energy to produce a can from recycled material, the high recycling rate also resulted in significant energy savings. The amount of energy saved just from recycling cans in 2010 is equal to the energy equivalent of 17 million barrels of crude oil, or nearly two days of all U.S. oil imports.

“We are pleased the recycling rate has increased from last year—this is a boost for our industry and further evidence that the aluminum beverage can is the best environmental and sustainability packaging option," said Steve Larkin, President, The Aluminum Association. “Of course we must do more at the federal, state and local levels to enact recycling policies and awareness, and this is a task we continue to pursue aggressively. We continue to look for partners who are also sincere about making a real change in how we approach recycling in the U.S. today.”

Aluminum beverage cans are unique in that they can be infinitely recycled back into new cans, keeping waste out of landfills and providing a significant amount of the material to make new cans. Indeed aluminum cans not only have the highest recycling rate of all beverage packages, they also have the greatest amount of recycled content—by far—at 68%.

“There’s a huge difference between what’s recyclable and what’s actually recycled,” said CMI President Robert Budway. “Not only are cans infinitely recyclable back into new cans, they actually are being recycled at a rate nearly twice that of every other beverage package. This, coupled with the fact that aluminum cans have the highest recycled content and provide the longest shelf life of any beverage package, underscores why the can truly is the sustainable solution for twenty-first century packaging.”

“As the first link in the manufacturing supply chain, the scrap recycling industry provides vital feedstock material sought after by industrial customers around the world, including more than 4.6 million metric tons of aluminum scrap processed in the United States and shipped throughout the United States and more than 50 countries in 2010,” said Robin Wiener, President of the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries. “Aluminum cans represent a valuable portion of these recyclable commodities. Recycling is much, much bigger than the bin at the curb. Our industry provided a $77 billion boost to the U.S. economy in 2010, protected our environment and helped save energy and natural resources.”

The aluminum beverage can is the most valuable package in the recycling stream and is the only packaging material that covers the cost of its own collection and re-processing.

In 2008, the Aluminum Association adopted a goal of recycling 75% of aluminum cans by 2015. The recycling rate at that time was 54.2%, and it has been gradually climbing upward since then; the 2009 UBC recycling rate was 57.4%.

Pure, Wholesome and Delicious: Introducing Lilly, The...

Downey, CA (PRWEB) June 12, 2011

Tired of additives-laden foods pretending to be “healthy,” consumers are demanding real foods, with a short list of ingredients and no additives. Look no further than Lilly Sour Cream

After years of settling for artificial-everything, in the quest to eat “low fat,” consumers are now demanding REAL food. No preservatives, no additives, and no artificial flavorings. Food as our grandparents used to eat- simple, wholesome, and delicious.

“Rather than focusing on “low fat,” consumers are now looking for a short ingredients list, and the shorter the better,” says Joe Lunzer of Hermosa Farms, maker of Lilly Sour Cream. “They don’t want to see any ingredient that they can’t pronounce, and they certainly don’t want to see any starches, gums or added flavors, because those mean the product is inferior and needs artificial help to appear appetizing and taste good” he adds.

"I always recommend to my clients to carefully read nutrition labels, to know what we are and are not eating” says June M Lay, M.S. “We should also keep in mind that foods that have a long list of ingredients tend to have additives, and are less pure” adds Lay.

Now widely available, Lilly Sour Cream is a delicious, satisfying sour cream that is thick and rich. It is made using a unique, patent-pending, European style process that results in a delightfully creamy texture, even though Lilly contains less saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium than regular sour cream, and more protein and calcium.

In an era of highly processed foods, consumers looking for the incredible taste and texture that only real foods can provide will love the rich, thick flavor of Lilly Sour Cream and the ultra-short ingredient list compared to our competition.

Lilly is 100% all natural, and has only one ingredient: Milk. It contains no thickeners, gums or preservatives. The result? A better tasting, healthier product. Your body will thank you as you savor every creamy spoonful.
